The Vice Chancellor, Prof Celestine Ntuen, has inaugurated Ritman University Sports Committee with a charge to make sports in RU attractive and lucrative.
Acting Director of Sports, Mr Oliver Akpan, said the objectives of sporting activities on campus are to engender spirit of leadership and followership, teach students to live together in harmony, inculcate habit of fair play in victory or defeat, and encourage team work in all situations.
For efficient sports administration and competition, hostels have been sectionalized into houses. There is the Ikot Ekpene House with Local Government Chairman, Obong Unyime Etim as Patron and Miss Victoria Okure to serve as Coordinating Staff. Justice House has Justice Nton Nton of the High Court as Patron and Engr Victor Dick as Coordinator. Pastor Anietie Ukpe, AKBC Director-General, is Patron of Publicity House and Miss Glory Valentine Coordinates. Akwa Ibom Development House has Elder Effiong Essien – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works – as Patron and is Coordinated by Dr Essiet Udosen. There is also the Legislative House with State House of Assembly Member, Hon Nse Ntuen as Patron and Mr. Kenneth Oforji as Coordinating Staff.
Coordinating staff have the responsibility to form house executives and appoint captains. They are to liaise with Patrons for smooth administration and sponsorship.
Inter-House Games are slated for 14th December, 2018, and winners will represent the university in 2019 Nigerian Private University Games. The Sports Directorate proposes friendly football matches, Basketball, Volleyball and Tennis Tournaments before 2018 rounds up.
Members of the University Sports Committee include Brendan Okafor, Edidiong Esara, Benjamin Mba, Emmanuel Ndiok, Michael Attai, Tony Uduimo, Precious Barikuula and John Ifiok Akpan. The Vice Chancellor and the Acting Dean of Student Affairs are sponsors.
House colours are orange for Ikot Ekpene House, black for Justice House, red for Publicity House, green for Development House and white for Legislative.
